On Monday, April 21, 2025, the Queennaap Foundation held its very first public event: a school donation ceremony at Nsuontem D/A Basic School. For our founder, Nana Adwoa Amankwah Pam I, this was not merely a charitable event but the physical manifestation of a deeply held belief that has guided her life. "Education is the key to success," she has said many times, and when the moment came to translate that belief into action, there was never any question about where the foundation would begin. The schoolyard buzzed with excitement as students, teachers, parents, and community leaders gathered to witness the start of something new. What they saw that morning was more than a pile of donated goods. It was a promise: that the children of Nsuontem would not be forgotten, and that their education would always come first.
The donation was carefully planned to address the most urgent needs of the students at Nsuontem D/A School. The foundation distributed hundreds of exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, and mathematical sets, ensuring that every student would have the basic tools required for learning. School bags were provided for children who had been carrying their books in plastic bags or under their arms. Reading materials and educational charts were given to teachers to supplement their classroom resources. In a move that reflected the foundation's deep understanding of the barriers facing young girls, sanitary pads were distributed to female students. Menstrual hygiene remains one of the leading causes of school absenteeism among adolescent girls in rural Ghana, and by addressing this need directly, the foundation sent a clear message: every girl deserves to stay in school, every day. Clothing items were also included in the donation, recognising that many families struggle to provide even basic attire for their children.
The Queennaap Foundation has an ambitious vision that spans education, elderly care, community development, youth empowerment, and widow support. So why did we choose to begin with a school donation? The answer lies in the founder's personal philosophy and in the realities of the community we serve. Education is the foundation upon which all other forms of development are built. A child who receives a quality education is more likely to escape the cycle of poverty, more likely to contribute to the economic growth of the community, and more likely to become a leader who uplifts others. In Nsuontem, where many families cannot afford basic school supplies, the lack of learning materials is a direct barrier to educational achievement. Children who attend school without exercise books or writing instruments fall behind their peers, lose motivation, and are at greater risk of dropping out entirely. By addressing this fundamental need first, the foundation laid the groundwork for everything else that would follow.
The impact of the April donation was immediate and visible. Teachers at Nsuontem D/A School reported that attendance improved in the weeks following the event, with students who had previously been absent returning to class. The provision of learning materials meant that teachers could assign homework and exercises with confidence that students had the tools to complete them. For parents, the donation lifted a significant financial burden. Several parents who spoke at the ceremony expressed deep gratitude, with one mother saying that she had been worried about how she would afford exercise books for her three children before the foundation stepped in. Beyond the practical impact, the event had a profound psychological effect on the community. It demonstrated that someone cared, that the children of Nsuontem were valued, and that the community's future mattered. The enthusiasm and joy on display that day reinforced what the foundation already knew: when you invest in children, you invest in hope.
The donation at Nsuontem D/A School was a beginning, not an end. The foundation's vision is to extend educational support to schools throughout the Nsuontem community and beyond, reaching every child who needs help. Future donation drives will include not only school supplies but also uniforms, footwear, backpacks, and supplementary learning materials. We are also developing a scholarship programme that will provide ongoing financial support to outstanding students from disadvantaged backgrounds. None of this is possible without your help. Every cedi donated goes directly toward purchasing educational materials and supporting the children who need them most. Every volunteer who joins our team multiplies our ability to reach more schools and more students. If you believe, as we do, that education is the key to success, then we invite you to be part of this mission. Together, we can ensure that the next school donation is even bigger, even more impactful, and even closer to creating the future our children deserve.
